Do you need help paying for medical, dental, or other health care for your student?

The Marjorie Hughes Fund exists to help students in need. We do not discriminate based on race, nationality, immigration status, gender, or sexual orientation.

Funding is limited to $300/student/year for medical care and $500/student/year for dental care, with some exceptions

For assistance with vision referrals, eye exams, or glasses, please contact your school nurse directly (link to school health directory form). The School Health Bureau has a separate program for assistance with these matters.

Who Is Eligible?

The student is an Arlington County resident and attends an Arlington County Public School.

The student receives free/reduced lunch through APS (see below) OR an income verification form indicating that the student would meet APS criteria for free/reduced lunch·        

Other resources for financial assistance are not available

Children from households whose income is at or below:

  • $30,000 for 2-person families

  • $45,000 for 4-person families

  • Students from households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or WIC

  • Children who are homeless, migrant or runaway

  • Foster children

Your inquiry will be directed to your student’s school nurse, who can initiate the assistance process.
